Great Camera for a low price...
I bought this camera in May 2009 for a trip my husband and I took to Alaska. It is a fantastic little camera and we are very happy with it. Cannon cameras are generally rated as a top choice for consumer reports and I just saw that a recent Consumer Reports magazine had this camera featured on the front. This camera is user-friendly, takes crisp pictures, uses only two AA batteries (which lasted us about 150-200 pictures), is light, takes pictures faster and is ready to take the next picture faster than our previous five-year old Powershot model. The only downsides are the fact that it only comes with a memory card that holds NINE pictures total. That's a little ridiculous. Plan on spending an extra $20 for a 4 GB memory card. It's still a great deal for what you get with this camera when you compare price to quality and I would buy it again and recommend it to others!

I can vouch for the IS!...
I've only had the A1000 IS for a few weeks and haven't mastered its use entirely but I can certainly vouch for the IS image stabiliaztion! Riding in a car over a ridged metal bridge that also has a railroad on it, I took photos of the road ahead and the moving train alongside as we were bumping along and: NO BLURRING WHATSOEVER! I was surprised that the images came out clear as a bell. I still have to master close-ups. They are not as easy to achieve as on the Nikon Coolpix 4600 I was using before but so far the quality of photos and colour fidelity is good. Easy to handle as well. I gave it four stars pending verification of the close-up capacity.

Awesome Camera...
It is an amazing camera. We had a Nikon before, and the quickness of this camera is amazing compared to our old camera. It does everything we need to do, and we look forward to playing with it some more, to see its full potential. Follow more detail >>
